It's based on a picture i saw in this big book about middle eastern mythology, the Canaanite chapter.
When I first saw it I stared at it for quite a while, quite astonished.
It was a picture that absolutely fascinated me for some reason. It was a carving in stone, a carving of Astarte, the Canaanite counterpart of Ishtar.
I assume that she kind of had the same role as Ishtar, a goddess of both love and war. She also protected the Hierodules, the temple prostitutes. Their role was to have sex with strangers for money, so the strangers could come in contact with the fertility gods and goddesses.

I think it's the primitive beauty and the simple portrayal of the female body that strangely enough still manages to trigger my sexual arousal that fascinates me so very much about this specific imagery.
But I'm pretty sure not many people would have the same feeling while looking at it.

But yeh, I always wanted to do something with it.
Maybe I'll try to do somethin more with it.. it's a fascinating image..

Also, I made a Raffy for Luis' competition. It turned out pretty swell, but I aint showing pictures until the competition is over!
